CPR-Lesson 11-AED for adults, children and infants

AED for adults and children

Always follow the instructions on the specific AED you are using.

Common AED operation involves:

  1. Push the button to release the lid and turn on the defibrillator.
  2. Pulling the handle to get the electrode pads and adhering them to the person’s chest, as shown.
  3. Pressing the flashing button if told to do so.

AED for infants

  • Some AEDs have special child pads or a child mode. Child pads are for children under 8 years old or under 25 kgs. If available, use those. If not, use the adult pads.
  • Just place one pad in the middle of the chest, and one in the middle of the back. It is important to ensure that the pads do not touch each other.
  • If a child is too small to have pads placed on their chest and side without touching, one of the pads should be placed on the child’s upper back, and the other on their front.
  • The AED will guide you through every step, so you don’t need training to use it. Just stay calm, listen, and follow the prompts.
