CPR-Lesson 9-CPR mask
Two common types of barrier devices
A barrier device, or CPR mask, is personal protective equipment designed to protect the rescuer from exposure to infection during close contact with Patients. This device is designed to keep the first aider safe, and it does not make rescue breaths more effective than straight mouth-to-mouth breaths.

A flat plastic barrier that lies across the victim’s mouth and nose and allows the rescuer to blow through a hole in the middle.

Professional first-aid providers often use a pear-shaped mask that fits over the mouth and nose. With the right technique, it adheres to the face. The first aider blows through a one-way valve at the top to provide rescue breaths.
Not having a protective barrier or not knowing how to use one should not prevent the first aider from performing CPR.
